(Top 4: Spirit, Ruby woo, Heroine, Taupe) (Bottom 4: Lustering, Candy Yum Yum, Angel, Russian Red)

Hey guys! Welcome back!

I am a lipstick addict! I have to admit that. I have a very reasonable makeup collection, some may even call it minimalist, but I cannot say the same for my lipstick section. I have many, many, many lipsticks. More than I actually need.

When it came to buying M.A.C. lipsticks, I researched a lot, especially to find out what would work best with my Indian/Brown skin tone. And that is why I can proudly say that my M.A.C lipstick collection is a capsule/minimalist one. So, if you are new to M.A.C. lipsticks, here’s a fool-proof guide to your M.A.C. lipstick starter kit, which may grow or stay as is. Honestly, these are all the colours you would need. In fact, if I were to start any lip collection at all, I would use this guide right here.

Nudes: 3 options

Taupe (Matte): Creamy consistency when it goes on, but dries a little to a matte consistency. This is a warm tone, leaning more to the brown side and looks good or people with warmer, deeper skin tones.

Spirit (Satin): Creamy consistency when it goes on and stays that way. A very nice cool tone shade that leans closer to a beige. It looks for people with both warm and cool tone skin. I love this, it is great for dark eye makeup as well.

Angel (Frost): I personally do not reach for this everyday, but I have seen that many people especially of deeper skin tones pull this off well as a nude. For me, I have to line my lips before wearing this. (Disclaimer though, I am not a big fan of this shade)

Reds: 2 Options

Ruby woo (Retro Matte): This is the best red tone to suit any skin tone. Plus, it makes your teeth look whiter. However, it is a very dry consistency. You have to put on lip balm before applying it. This stains as well, so if you are looking for a long lasting lipstick, this is it.

Russian Red (Matte): Although this is a matte, it is definitely more moisturizing than Ruby woo. It has more of a brownish tone, so your teeth look more yellow, but it is a very chic shade of red. This stains as well, but as it is more creamy than Ruby woo, it does come off when you eat.

Everyday Pink: 2 options

Lustering (Lustre): This pink shade gives a wash of colour and moisture to dull lips. Although it is a lustre, the pink is very pigmented, and even for girls who have two-toned lips this has enough coverage. Very easy and comfy to wear.

Twig (Satin): This shade is creamy as it goes on and stays that way. Moisturizing and opaque, for girls who want more coverage and a pink that can be used everyday, this is the shade to look out for.

Summer Pink:

Candy Yum Yum (Matte): This is the ultimate bubble gum pink for brown girls. It looks like a mauve with its purple undertone. It is bold and out there and not everyone may be comfortable with it but that can be easily fixed with a bit of lip liner. I think this looks good on many brown skin tones.

I chose a summer pink, but you could always use a coral. I just wasn’t impressed by any of M.A.C.’s coral shades on my NC42 skin tone.

Bold Lip:

Heroine (Matte): This is a bold purple shade. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted. This bold look makes me look really fierce and flawless…hahahah…. I chose this shade as it is bold yet bright enough to bring colour to our faces. I personally do not like dull and dark shades so I felt this bold, dark and bright shade is worth buying.

So these, were my ideas on what lipsticks to stick to when starting a M.A.C. lipstick collection or if you desire to have a minimalist collection.

And as I mentioned before, these lipsticks are good enough as they can be mixed up to get several other colours that I am pretty sure they sell at M.A.C. as well. So save your money and have fun mixing these shades to get the perfect colour. Some examples of the colours I came up with can be found in my youtube video, below.

Just a note, always buy your lipsticks on sale or at outlet stores in order to keep the cost down.

See you guys next time!
